About Us
Texas Southern University (TSU) has been awarded a five-year U54 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), from 2025 to 2030. The award will support the Center for Biomedical and Health Research (CBMHR) at TSU, co-led by Huan Xie, PhD (PI), and Dong Liang, PhD (PD).
This program will strengthen Texas Southern’s research infrastructure and promote interdisciplinary collaboration across biomedical, behavioral, and clinical fields. By addressing critical health challenges, such as cancer and hypertension, we aim to improve healthcare outcomes in the Greater Houston area, Harris County, and beyond, advancing Texas Southern’s mission in biomedical, socio-behavioral, and clinical research, education, training, and service.
Our Cores and Projects
Directed by the PIs/PD, provides administrative oversight, logistical support, fiscal accountability, and will oversee the continuous evaluation of each proposed activity/core and the impact of the Center toward achieving goals.
Focused on Public Health Outreach and Community Engagement to directly serve Houston/Harris County by addressing health challenges through collaborations with healthcare systems, FQHCs, CBOs, and partnering academic institutions.
Propel the academic careers of early-stage investigators (ESIs) at TSU in biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research aimed at addressing and solving health challenges, providing tailored support, and resources to enhance research capabilities.
Provide services to support TSU faculty, especially ESIs, in biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research and enhance internal and external collaborations.
